Climate of Lisbon

Which is the best time of year to visit Lisbon? Does it always enjoy nice weather? Does it rain much in winter?

Lisbon is one of the warmest capital cities in Europe. It has a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate, which means that in winter temperatures are mild and in summer it's quite warm. The wind from the Atlantic Ocean brings quite a lot of rain but keeps the temperatures moderate.

Average temperatures

January is the coldest month with an average temperature of 52ºF (11ºC). It's rare for it to get colder than 41ºF (5ºC). In summer, the warmest month is July with average temperatures of 74ºF (24ºC). However, it can get much hotter with temperatures over 86ºF (30ºC) and lows of 62ºF (17ºC). The wettest month of the year is November and as you might expect the summer months see less rain.

The best time to visit Lisbon

Since Lisbon has an enjoyable climate all year round, it's an ideal city to visit any time of year.

Our favorite seasons are spring and autumn, but if you also want to sunbathe during your holiday, we recommend going to Lisbon in the summer and exploring the long and pristine beaches.
